The Marketplace Development Manager is responsible for the merchandising strategy for OpenX advertising inventory, with a specific focus on driving Targeted Exchange (TE), Private Marketplace (PMP) and Real-time Guaranteed (RTG) buyer adoption and revenue. As a member of the Programmatic Direct business team, this person will work closely with the Buyer Development and Platform Demand teams to understand and respond to the needs of specific ad buyers at Demand-Side Platforms, Agency Trading Desks, Agencies and Advertisers. The Marketplace Development Manager will develop an intimate knowledge of OpenX publishers’ inventory and will coordinate with the Programmatic Direct Supply Managers for each region to package and price inventory to meet the needs of OpenX buyers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively conceive and build multi-publisher PMP and Targeted Exchange packages and deals using a variety of inventory attributes with input and feedback from buyer-facing teams
  • Respond to specific buyer campaign needs by identifying and assembling appropriate publisher inventory packages, meeting client deadlines as needed
  • Collaborate with the product marketing team to develop buyer-facing marketing materials and use various communication channels to showcase OpenX’s evolving publisher inventory
  • Manage inventory package distribution via API to DSPs and other media planning tools
  • Provide input to Product Managers on inventory planning, discovery and negotiation tools
  • Act as the main Programmatic Direct product expert and contact for buyer-facing teams
  • Help the Buyer Development team to recruit clients to test new products and features
  • Educate the regional Programmatic Direct Supply Managers on recommended strategies for packaging ad inventory to sell in TE, PMP and RTG channels
  • Aggregate and synthesize buyer interest to help inform publisher and inventory acquisition


  • BA degree
  • 3+ years experience at a media agency, ad network, DSP, online publisher or similar company within the digital media ecosystem
  • Experience working at or with an online publisher to segment inventory to meet buyers’ campaign needs. Potential backgrounds include publisher media packaging, publisher sales, publisher account management or agency media buying
  • Deep understanding of the online ad industry and advertiser campaign objectives
  • Preferred: Knowledge of the RTB/programmatic ecosystem and private marketplaces
  • Preferred: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel
