Answers
What is OpenX?
OpenX is the company behind the free ad server for web publishers. The OpenX ad server makes it easy to include and manage the advertising on your website.
Refer to our documentation index to learn more about the OpenX ad server.
What does the OpenX ad server do?
The OpenX ad server is a free open-source ad server which you can download and install on your server of choice (see documentation for server requirements).
You can use it to manage banners of as many different types of ad networks (or self made banners) as you like across as many websites as you like. It provides options for banner capping, user and site based targeting, time or impression/click limited campaigns, and prioritization of campaigns.
You can review the statistical performance of a specific banner, campaign, advertiser, publisher or zone and re-prioritize your banners as needed.
Is OpenX really free? Even on commercial projects?
Yes. OpenX is released under the General Public Licence (GPL), which means you can use it for free, irrespective of whether it’s for commercial or personal use. You are also entitled to modify OpenX under the terms of the GPL.
Find out more about the GNU General Public License.
What services does OpenX provide?
Our core business is to help web publishers make more money from online advertising. Primarily, we do this by developing the best possible ad server for web publishers but we also provide consulting services.
We're also a participant in the OpenX Community. You'll see us helping out and discussing ideas on the OpenX Forum and IRC channels.
Where can I go for support?
The support section of the OpenX website provides lots of information to help you get the most from your OpenX. Visit the getting help section of the FAQ for more information about where you can go for free and paid support.
I have a website which is based on a non-PHP language - can I use OpenX?
Yes, OpenX can display banners on any website no matter what language the website is written in. We would suggest you use the javascript or iFrame invocation tags for displaying banners on your website.
Only the Local Mode invocation tag will work with PHP websites only. XML-RPC invocation tags are available for advanced users and, although it contains an example PHP file for illustrative purposes, it can be used with nearly any programming language.
