What is a private exchange?
It is a private ad exchange for a specific seller, where the list of buyers, terms, and inventory available are all set and controlled by the seller. Inventory is sold in a real-time auction per impression; the competitive bidding dynamics ensures sellers get full value for their inventory.
Why does it make sense?
Sellers maintain tight controls over their most valuable inventory. Plus they take advantage of real-time auctions to create competition for each impression sold and increase CPMs. It's a highly efficient way to grab a chunk of the growing demand from DSPs and agency trading desks—who increasingly are allocating big budgets to target audiences on real-time exchanges.
How does it work with OpenX Market?
With OpenX Market, sellers control the following:
- Buyers: which DSP, Agency trading desk, brand, or other buying entity is permitted to buy
- Inventory: what page, section, audience or ad unit type is available
- Pricing & terms: the minimum price for inventory and tiers of access (so select buyers get preferential access to inventory)
- Creative: acceptable categories and ad behavior (ie. Expanding, audio, etc.)
