Statistics - video ads

The OpenX Video Plugin provides a number of new screens within the existing reporting framework to show statistics related to video events. These screens feature rich visual graphs displaying statistics for your video ads. You will be able to see these new screens under Advertisers & Campaigns and Websites & Zones. For an introduction to the OpenX Video Plugin, please refer to the documentation here. For a step-by-step guide on how to start serving video ads, please refer to the documentation here.

Tracked events for Video Ads

The following events are logged for Video Ads:

1. Impressions - Impressions for video ads are reported in the standard Statistics screens for those ads. Impressions are tracked as follows:

  • For Inline Video Ads, an impression is logged when the stream has been served and the video initiated. This is the same as a "Video Ad Started" event.
  • For Overlay Video Ads, an impression is logged when the overlay is being displayed over the content video.

2. Clicks - Clicks for video ads are reported in the standard Statistics screens for those ads. Clicks are tracked as follows:

  • For Inline Video Ads, when the Video Ad is clickable to the advertiser's website, clicks are tracked using the standard OpenX redirect URL.
  • For Overlay Video Ads when the click opens a website, clicks are tracked using the standard OpenX redirect URL.
  • For Overlay Video Ads when the click opens a Video Ad, clicks on the Video Ad that link to the advertiser's website will be tracked. If you want to know how many times the overlay was clicked and the Video Ad started playing, you can look at the "Started" event for this Video Ad.

3. Video Events - Video Events are unique to video ads and are reported in a new tab within the reporting structure. The following events are tracked:

  • Started - The video has started playing. This should be approximately equal to the number of Impressions for this Video Ad in the regular OpenX Banner statistics screen.
  • Quartile views - Viewed > 25%, Viewed > 50% and Viewed > 75%, Completed.
  • Paused - The user has clicked on the Pause button in the video player.
  • Resumed - The user has clicked on the Play button in the video player; this button is available when the video was previously Paused.
  • Muted - The user has muted the ad.
  • Fullscreen - The user has clicked to view the ad in fullscreen mode.

Note: for Overlay Video Ads when the click opens a website, the Video Events are not tracked as there is no Video Ad.

Viewing Video Event statistics under Advertisers & Campaigns

Go to Statistics > Advertisers & Campaigns and select a desired time period from the dropdown. Then select an advertiser that you created video ads for. You will see a tab called Advertiser Video Report. When you select that tab, you will see the following statistics.

  • Views - The graph at the top of the screen shows aggregate data for the specified date range for video ads belonging to the advertiser. The horizontal axis represents quartile viewed (Started, Viewed > 25%, Viewed > 50%, Viewed > 75%, Completed) and the vertical axis represents the number of viewers who viewed a video ad beyond the specific quartile (the number of viewers does not necessarily reflect unique viewers).
  • Views events history - The table below the Views graph shows aggregate data, broken out by day, for all VAST tracking events for video ads belonging to the advertiser (VAST events are defined in the IAB VAST Specification). These events include quartile views, replays, fullscreens, mutes and stops.
    • You can choose different ways of aggregating the data in this table by selecting a different value in the View by dropdown. You can aggregate by Day, Week, Month, Year, Hour of Day, Campaign, or Banner.
    • You can also choose different ways of visualizing the data in this table by selecting a different value from the Show as dropdown (graphical views exist for the quartile-related statistics only). Selecting Graph (# of views) shows a graph of quartile views plotted against day (or whatever unit you chose to aggregate on). Selecting Graph (% of views) shows the same graph but plots each quartile viewed as a percent of total views.
